The Difference between что and чтобы

Did you know that что and чтобы are used in different situations? When referring to actual facts, we use что. The tense of the verb in the clause introduced by что is the same as the tense in real time. To express the desired event we use чтобы with the verb in the past tense, whatever the real time of the desired event.

For example,

Я знаю, что ты приедешь. I know that you will come.
Вы слышали, что сказли в новостях? Have you heard what they said in the news?
Я хочу, чтобы ты приехал. I want you to come.
Необходимо, чтобы вы прислали документы. It is necessary that you send us the documents.
