Russian Nouns Ending in ЦИЯ and СИЯ

May 9, 2018 | Tags: Russian nouns Russian spelling

Did you know that the majority of English nouns of Latin origin,  ending in -tion (organisation, ovation, capitulation, etc.), end in ция in Russian? However, when a noun of Latin origin ends in -sion (depression, recession, etc.), in Russian it will normally have the ending сия. Of course, all these nouns are feminine in Russian.

For example,

Организация, овация, телепортация, трансплантация, организация, нация.
Депрессия, рецессия, сессия, обсессия.
