Russian Conjunction да

Did you know that да does not only mean yes, but it can also mean and and but.  It is mainly used in written speech, idioms and collocations.

For example,

Мал, да удал. Russian proverb. A young or a short man has many merits or is capable of doing great things.

Степь да степь кругом… Russian song. Literally: Steppe and steppe all around. Meaning: There is nothing but steppe all around.
